Travel Goals vs Financial Goals

Knowing when to save??????

Many of you know that I love to travel.  If there is a deal out there to travel somewhere exotic and new I am so there.  I recently cancelled an awesome trip this week to go to Japan for 10 days as well as China.  Why you might say, because knowing that I still have not met my financial or personal goals for 2018 the timing of this trip was all wrong.  Going away for one whole week would have put me behind financially even more the only thing that I paid for was the discount flights which were excessively inexpensive.  Japan is expensive, If I were to go on this trip it would set me back an additional $2,000 in hotel fees, transportation, sightseeing and food.  I never book hotel until last minute unless it is a packaged deal.  2000 extra dollars was not in my budget, so losing $500 which it cost me to buy my round trip flight is a better loss then losing $2,500.  I booked my flights almost a year in advance to save money and though I don’t like losing money or missing out on a great trip, my financial and personal goals are priority.  I have so many things that are incomplete financially and personally to be taken care of before 2019.  I did have travel insurance so I actually didn’t lose all of the $500. Knowing how to save for every circumstance will keep you ahead financially.  Japan will always be there China will always be there.  I could always go in the future.  However, my financial and personal goals are present and need to be taken care of now.    Learning how to prioritize is part of budgeting as well as saving and meeting financial goals.

What was the last thing that you missed out on because you were trying to save or meet a certain Financial or Personal goal. I would love to hear what you have to say?
